Sometimes you need to keep your Blog unpublished without losing anything you already have, whether it's for maintenance, because you're not ready to launch it yet, or simply because you want to review something before it goes public.
Your Blog has two states: Live or Unpublished. You'll see them right next to "Details" on your Blog's details page in Can Do, along with a button that says Publish or Unpublish.
The first time is automatic. When you create a Blog, Can Do doesn't publish it immediately; first it needs to bring your existing messages from Basecamp. While that happens, you'll see a progress bar that says "Building your blog". Once it finishes bringing everything, your Blog publishes automatically and you'll receive an email with the link. You don't have to click anything for this first launch.
After that, the Publish / Unpublish button is available whenever you want:
- Click Unpublish to take your Blog down temporarily; no one can see it at its URL while it's off, and not even a "under maintenance" notice appears. The page simply won't load.
- Click Publish to bring it back up. If it's on Publish anyone will be able to see it and read information from your Blog.
Notes:
- Publish or Unpublish doesn't change anything in your posts or settings, it only affects whether readers can see it or not.
- When the Blog is Unpublish, clicking on the URL will redirect you to the Can Do home page, since you haven't published it and readers won't be able to see it.
- When the Blog is Publish, clicking on the URL will direct your readers to your Blog.
