If Finder shows "Companion for Basecamp encountered an error. Items may be out of date" when opening a Companion folder, it's almost always because the Finder extension isn't enabled or there's an old copy of the app.
1. Enable the extension
- Go to System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → File Providers.
- Make sure Companion for Basecamp is enabled.
2. Keep only one copy of the app
Have Companion for Basecamp only in your Applications folder. If an old copy is left in Downloads, Desktop, or a Dropbox folder, delete it; macOS might be loading that one instead of the correct one.
3. Restart
Close the app and open it again. If it's still the same, restart your Mac; that will make macOS reload the extension from scratch.
