Companion requests some macOS permissions, and only when needed. Each one has a specific reason; you grant them the first time you use the function that needs them.
File Provider (Finder)
This is what allows your projects to appear as folders in Finder. It's activated once in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → File Providers. It's the same permission that Dropbox or Google Drive use.
Accessibility
It's needed by actions that move windows from other apps (window management) or send keyboard presses for you (some system commands). macOS requests it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
Automation
It's requested by commands that control other system apps (for example switching to dark mode, or restarting / shutting down / logging out). The first time you use one, macOS shows the Automation notification; accept it for it to work.
Full Disk Access (optional)
This one is entirely optional. Granting it silences a macOS prompt ("would like to access data from other apps") that can pop up now and then while the Launcher looks up the names and icons of your installed apps. Companion only reads that metadata, never your files or their contents. Grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access: click the + button and add Companion from your Applications folder (macOS doesn't add it to the list on its own the way it does for Accessibility).

Note: you can see the status of your permissions in Settings → Permissions. If a function warns that it's missing a permission, you can grant it there or try again.
